The Walled Garden

The Walled Garden was established in 1827, in the grounds of St Catherine’s House. The garden has been restored to a fully working state, reflecting the heritage of the house and garden, and has operated as an active business and visitor attraction since 2012.

Set in the grounds of St.Catherine’s House, The Walled Garden Centre offers a wonderfully relaxed environment for people to take time out to enjoy the historic surroundings and unwind in the peace and tranquillity.

We encourage visitors to come into our newly refurbished greenhouse and retail area, where we sell plants and fresh produce throughout the year. We also sell handcrafted items which are made by Flourish pathway participants and volunteers.

As a community interest company focusing on recovery, we aim to create a positive, supportive and safe environment for team members to develop their skills and confidence. Here at the Walled Garden Centre we believe in nurturing and caring for people and the environment. Our team is made up of a mix of staff, volunteers and people who need support to gain skills and confidence on the pathway to employment.

A range of family events are held throughout the year where we join up with our colleagues in St Catherine’s House and the Victorian Tea Rooms to deliver exciting and fun attractions to cater for all in the community.

The Walled Garden Shop

Now situated inside the greenhouse, The Walled Garden Shop has a focus on garden related gifts, tools and plants. We also stock handcrafted gifts, made on site by our team, using items found around Woodfield Park as our inspiration.

Throughout the year we stock seasonal plants, many of which are grown from seed on-site. We also grow our own fruit and vegetables throughout the year, which you can come and pick straight from the ground, so freshness is guaranteed!

Why not stop in? Our team will be happy to help you find that special something.

Please note during the winter months the Walled Garden is closed on Saturday & Sundays.

Community

Working with the local community is a key part of Flourish’s remit and within The Walled Garden Centre we are always looking for ways to involve the community in what we do.

From encouraging local small businesses and independent suppliers to stock our shop, to working with local interest groups and the local community, we aim to provide a welcoming environment for members of the community to come in and get involved themselves. There are regular activity groups that are run throughout the year, open to members of the local community.

The Walled Garden Centre operates in the community to provide opportunities for volunteering and vocational placements for people who need support to gain skills and confidence on the pathway to employment.

– Skills development in chosen area, with placements across Flourish
– Individual action planning
– Access to training
– Wellness for Work and recovery group
– Group work to aid employment skills

Within this programme there is a varied range of opportunities, empowering people to participate in work activities so that they can progress toward paid employment or other vocational aspirations.
