Spring really was in the air when a Balby-based social enterprise held a seedling planting event to promote positive mental wellbeing during Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 (8 – 14 May).

It was a perfect sunny day for the event on Wednesday 10 May in the Walled Garden at Woodfield Park, which is run by Flourish Enterprises, a non-profit making organisation, where visitors were invited to take a moment to think about mental health and plant their own seedling to nurture at home.

Flourish Occupational Therapist Nikki Walker said: “We were delighted so many people came to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful grounds at Woodfield Park and support our event.

“Research shows gardening is good for our mental health and the theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘Surviving or Thriving, so we invited people to come along to our lovely garden to enjoy the fresh air and plant a seed to take home and encourage it to grow and thrive.”

Flourish Enterprises provides work and vocational opportunities to people who need support to get back into education or employment.
